1. Square metres: The first 50 m² of a home typically require 1 moving box per square metre. For anything above 50 m², however, the density of small items falls (there's more empty floor space), so the calculator only adds 0.5 box for each extra m². A 70 m² home therefore gives a base of 60 boxes. This base covers the home's shared rooms such as the kitchen and living room.
2. Number of people: The tool automatically adds a fixed 5 boxes per person in the household to cover personal belongings such as clothes, shoes, toys and hobby items – adults and children count the same.
3. Extra storage: If you mark that you have an attic, basement or shed, the calculator adds a safety net of 15 extra boxes to the equation.
4. Your lifestyle (The X-factor): Finally, the calculator looks at your lifestyle. If you're a true minimalist, a percentage is automatically subtracted from the total. If, on the other hand, you tend to collect things, the total is multiplied up a little.
