The tool is easy to use. You simply enter your square metres, how many people are in the household, and whether you have a small storage room or a house with an attic or basement. You then get a range for how many boxes a home like yours typically needs – and when you book, you choose the exact number yourself.

How the calculator works behind the scenes
The calculator is based on the rule of thumb most Danish movers use, and works out your need from 3 factors – plus a range:
- 1. Square metres: The calculator counts half a moving box per square metre. This covers the home's shared rooms such as the kitchen, living room and hallway. A 70 m² home therefore gives a base of 35 boxes. Use the square metres you know from the BBR register or the sales listing.
- 2. Number of people: The tool automatically adds a fixed 5 boxes per person in the household to cover personal belongings such as clothes, shoes, toys and hobby items – adults and children count the same.
- 3. Extra storage: If you have a small storage room or basement locker, the calculator adds 5 boxes. If you have a house with an attic, basement or shed, it adds 15.
- 4. A range instead of one number: No two homes are alike. That's why the calculator shows a range (±20%) instead of one fixed number. If you're a minimalist, you can aim for the low end – if you're a collector, aim high. And if you're unsure, round up: it's cheaper than running out.
What affects your final number of moving boxes?
Besides the home's square metres, three factors in particular affect how much you actually have to pack:
Personal belongings (How many clothes and toys do you have?)
Even though the square metres dictate how much room you have for furniture and kitchenware, it's the people in the household who fill the cupboards. Each adult uses boxes for clothes, shoes and personal items, while the children's boxes are quickly filled with teddy bears, building blocks and gear.
Lifestyle: Are you a minimalist or a collector?
Your lifestyle is an enormously important factor. Two families in identical 120 m2 townhouses can have vastly different needs. The minimalist has streamlined cupboards and empty surfaces, while the collector has shelves full of books, heirlooms and a basement full of memories. That's why the calculator shows a range: the minimalist can aim for the low end, the collector for the high end.

Basements and attics often hide heavy tools, old books and Christmas decorations. It's crucial to use strong, professional boxes here, since they often carry great weight and need to be stackable without the bottom giving way or the tower toppling over.
